9-0 run pushes Scott County past Mason County 71-64

The Scott County Cardinals ended the game on a 9-0 run to beat the Mason County Royals 71-64 tonight in Georgetown. There were eight ties and seven lead changes in the game. Russ Middleton scored 17 points in the first quarter to give Mason County a 20-13 lead. The Royals led by 11 early in the second quarter. Neal Pawsat took an elbow to the head in the second quarter and sat out the rest of the game. Scott County cut the lead to two at the half and opened the third quarter on 7-0 run. Mason County bounced back and led 50-48 after three quarters. Mason County was up 64-62 and headed to free throw line for a 1-and-1 with 53 seconds to play in the game. The game was delayed for several minutes after a fan became ill right behind the Royals' bench. When play resumed, Middleton missed the free throw and Scott County went on the 9-0 run on three old-fashioned three-point plays. Middleton scored a career-high 31 points. The loss snapped the Royals' six-game winning streak. Mason County plays at Pendleton County Tuesday night.
