After a long day of travel (16 1/2 hours including stops), the Mason County Royals arrived at their hotel in Daytona Beach, Florida a few minutes ago. I rode the team bus. We made good time until we got to Atlanta. Traffic was so slow on I-75, the driver decided to take side roads for awhile. Several parents who either drove earlier or flew, were waiting at the hotel. Vicki Sapp had everybody checked in so there was no wait. That was good because a girls' basketball team arrived right before we did. Mason County plays Harrison High School of Kennesaw, Ga. tomorrow at noon in the 19th Annual Daytona Beach Sunshine Classic. Here is a rundown of the Royals' travel log today:
6:55 a.m. Pulled out of the Mason County High School campus
9:32 a.m. Stopped in Wlliamsburg, Ky for a restroom break and to purchase snacks
9:48 a.m. Back on the road
12:59 p.m. Stopped in Calhoun, Ga. to switch bus drivers and to eat lunch at Wendy's or Dairy Queen
1:39 p.m. Back on the road
6:05 p.m. Stopped for dinner at Golden Corral in Cordele, Ga.
7:05 p.m. Back on the road for the final leg of the trip
11:33 p.m. Pulled into the Daytona Beach Resort
