The Mason County Royals and St. Patrick sophomore Russell Rigg qualified for the boys' state golf tournament. Mason County qualified by finishing second in the regional tournament today at the Maysville Country Club. Rigg is an individual qualifier.
Mason County shot a 336 and finished 15 shots behind region champion Pendleton County.
The top two teams qualify for the state tournament. Eric White led Mason County with an 81.
Ryan Hamm shot an 84. Tanner Walton had an 85. Josh Harris shot an 86 and Bradley Litzinger had a 93. Rigg shot an 80 and won the third individual qualifying spot on the first hole of a sudden death playoff. Michael Petering of Campbell County and Zach Wright of Grant County both shot 74s. Petering chipped in for a birdie on the first playoff hole to edge Wright for the individual title. Petering and Wright also advance to the state tournament officially titled the
Leachman Buick and GMC KHSAA State Golf Championship. The tournament is scheduled October 9-11 at Bowling Green Country Club. Here are the team scores:
