Two days later than originally scheduled, the 39th District fast-pitch softball and baseball tournaments got underway today. The Mason County Lady Royals beat the St. Patrick Lady Saints 5-1 in the semifinals of the softball tournament. The Lady Royals will play the Bracken County Lady Bears in the championship game Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Maysville-Mason County Recreation Park.
The St. Patrick Saints and Mason County Royals were semifinal winners in the baseball tournament. The Saints defeated the Augusta Panthers 16-3 and the Mason County Royals beat the Bracken County Polar Bears 16-1 in six innings.
The Royals scored 11 runs in the sixth inning. Richie Cox drove in five runs in the sixth inning with a three-run home run and a double.
St. Patrick and Mason County will meet in the championship game Thursday night at 7 o'clock at Bracken County.
Thanks to Jason Butler for covering the baseball games for me tonight. My oldest daughter, Danielle, had surgery in Lexington today and I was with her. She did fine.
