Here is a press release from Mason County Track and Field Coach Mark Kachler:
On Saturday, Mason County Schools will unveil its new Indoor Athletic Complex with their inaugural Indoor Track Meet. In a partnership agreement with the Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association, Mason County Schools converted the interior of the Jockey manufacturing facility to an Indoor Athletic Complex. The facility has one of only two indoor tracks in the state of Kentucky. Only the University of Kentucky has a similar facility. Coach Mark Kachler, who helped bring the school system together with the KTCCCA, stated "It is a fantastic opportunity for our athletes in many sports but especially track and field to have a unique facility of this type. With the financial and technical help of the coaches association, we have built a great facility at no cost to the school system."
The cost to construct the indoor track was funded entirely by the KTCCCA with the proceeds of the meets going to repay the cost. In addition to the meet proceeds, the Maysville Tourism Commission has donated to the project due to the increase in tourism revenues that will arise from the seven track meets to be held at the facility this winter and in winters to come. Also a five-year agreement to sell the naming rights to the facility was reached with US Bank. With this agreement the facility will acquire a new name. Instead of always being referred to as the "Old Jockey Property", the facility will now be known as the US Bank/Mason County Schools Indoor Athletic Complex. A ceremony to recognize the re-naming of the building will be held on Saturday just prior to the start of the first race.
Meets will be held each Saturday from January 19 thru March 1 at 10:00 am.
