Arthur Allen "Punk" Griffin Dead at Age 81

Legendary Maysville Bulldogs basketball scorekeeper Arthur Allen "Punk" Griffin died this morning. He was 81. Griffin was the official scorer for the 39th District and 10th Region tournaments for many years. He is a member of the 10th Region Hall of Fame. Griffin attended his first state tournament in 1944. Philip Hay interviewed Punk at last year's state tournament and Griffin still had vivid memories of Maysville's 1947 state championship team. Punk was a walking sports encyclopedia and a Maysville institution. Everytime I've been around Cincinnati Reds radio announcer Marty Brenneman, he has asked about Punk. It was the same with sportswriters Bob White, Earl Cox and Mike Fields. They always wanted to know how Punk was doing. The state tournament won't be the same without him.
