Mason County junior De'Sarae Chambers finished second in the girls' long jump today at the state track and field meet in Lexington. Chambers had a season-best jump of
16-10.25, but was edged out by Paducah Tilghman sophomore Natalie Shumpert, who had a jump of 16-11. It's the third straight year that Chambers has finished second. Mason County junior Daniel Reed was sixth in the triple jump with a personal best mark of 42-04.
Mason County's boys'4x100 and 4x200 relay teams advanced to Saturday's finals.
The 4x100 team consisting of Brent Sparks, Tyreese Scott, Daniel Reed and Chase Crawford had a time of 44.98 seconds. The 4x200 team of Sparks, Scott, Crawford and Ryan Foley had a time of 1:34.92. Sparks was 10th in the preliminaries of the boys'200 meter dash (23.80) and failed to qualify for the finals.
