News and notes

Here are some news and notes to catch up on some local sports:
  • Former Mason County football players Jackson Tolle and Colt Fearis will receive Mid-South Conference Championship rings. Georgetown College won its 17th conference title. The Tigers play MidAmerica Nazarene Saturday in the first round of the NAIA playoffs;
  • Mason County offensive tackle Alex Newton has been invited to playin the Kentucky All-Star football game. A team of Louisville all-stars will play a team of all-stars from the rest of the state;
  • The Mason County Royals will host the Highland Bluebirds in the 2011 football season. Highlands has won 19 state championships. The Bluebirds have won three consecutive Class 5A state titles. Highlands will drop down to Class 4A next season;
  • Trevor Setty scored a season-high 19 points for Pikeville College in the Tigers' 108-71 victory over Glenville State on Nov. 10
