Lady Royals survive and advance with a win over Bracken County

The Mason County Lady Royals beat the Bracken County Lady Bears by 36 points in December, but they were pushed to limit before winning 51-48 in a semifinal game of the 39th District Tournament Tuesday night at Bracken County.

There were six ties and 11 lead changes in the game. Bracken County led 38-36 early in the fourth quarter. Mason County went on a 13-2 run to lead 49-40 midway through the quarter. The Lady Bears answered with eight straight points. Mason County junior Jordan Frodge made a layup with 40 seconds to play for the final margin.

Briana McNutt had a game-high 20 points for Mason County. Bailey Cummins led Bracken County with 17 points.

Mason County has won seven straight games and 13 of their last 14. The Lady Royals will play St. Patrick in the championship game Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
