Lofton Scores 18 in Loss to Tar Heels

Chris Lofton scored 18 points in Tennesssee's 101-87 loss to North Carolina today in the consolation game of the NIT Pre-season Tip-Off. Lofton was six of 13 from the field including five of eight on three-point shots. He was one of three from the free throw line. It seems to me that Lofton's teammates forget he's on the floor.
Too many times they drive to the basket and don't finish without even trying to get the ball to Lofton. He has to get more than 13 shots. He only took nine shots in the loss to Butler Wednesday night.

Basketball Previews

The Herald-Leader and Courier-Journal are both out with their high school basketball previews. The Mason County Royals are in the top 10 and the Mason County Lady Royals are in the top 25 in both paper's pre-season rankings.

Lofton Scores 1,000th Career Point

Chris Lofton scored eight points including the 1,000th of his career in Tennessee's 56-44 loss to Butler last night in the semi-finals of the NIT Season Tip-Off at Madison Square Garden. Lofton fouled out of the game. The Vols made just three of 29 shots in the second half. Tennessee plays North Carolina in the consolation game tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. on ESPN. Despite the low scoring game, it's been a big week for Lofton. He was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week after scoring 30 points against Fordham, and he is one of 50 pre-season candidates for the Naismith Trophy presented by Cingular Wireless.

Back-up quarterback Nick Davila made his first start, snapping Grutza's streak of 21 straight starts. Davila completed 11 of 15 passes for 277 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for a touchdown.
