Mason County Girls Team and Three Local Boys Qualify for State Cross Country Meet

The Mason County girls cross country team qualified for the state meet with a third place finish in the Class AA Region 5 meet in Pendleton County today. The Lady Royals were led by 7th grader Valerie Rice with a fourth place finish (23:15.3) and 8th grader Iretta Carpenter who was 9th (24:02.6). Two Mason County boys, senior Travis Scaggs and freshman Jim Meyers, are individual qualifiers for the Class AA state meet. Scaggs finished 7th (19:16.6) and Meyers was 26th (21:19.3) in the regional meet. St. Patrick senior Stephen Cropper is an individual qualifier for the Class A state meet. Cropper finished 19th (19:16.6) in the Region 4 meet at Fairview. In addition to Rice and Carpenter, the Mason County girls team includes
sophomores Blaine Menke and Rachel White, 8th graders Samantha Grayson and Alexi Loving, and 7th graders Chelsi Comberger and Jessica Shotwell. The state meet is Saturday at the Kentucky Horse Park.
