Four Mason Co. athletes named to KTCCCA All-State Track Teams
Four Mason County athletes have been named to the Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Class AA Boys All-State Track Teams. Seth Adkins was named First Team All-State in the 200 meter dash and Second Team All-State in the 100 meter dash. Mason County's 4x400 meter relay team of Adkins, Bradley Lang, Colt Fearis and Josh Harris was named First Team All-State.

Seth Adkins 2nd in 100 meters and 3rd in 200 meters at Berea Peak Meet
Recent Mason County High School graduate Seth Adkins finished second in the 100 meter dash (11.38) and third in the 200 meter dash (22.26) in the Berea Peak Meet Saturday at Berea College.

Seth Adkins is Class AA state champion in 200 dash, boys' 4x400 meter also state champs
Mason County senior Seth Adkins is the Class AA state champion in the 200 meter dash. Adkins won the race in a time of 22.19 today at the state meet at the University of Louisville. Adkins finished third in the 100 meter dash. Adkins teamed with Colt Fearis, Josh Harris and Bradley Lang to win the 4x400 meter relay (3:24.16). Fearis took fifth place in the 400 meter dash. Harris was ninth in the triple jump and tied for 10th place in the 400 meter dash. Ashley Deatley tied for seventh in the girls' high jump. Raylee Kirkland was eighth in the girls' pole vault. Mason County's 4x100 meter relay team of Madison Paver, Katie Redmond, Jade Morgan and Andreana Bennett took ninth place.
Central won the boys' state championship with 100 points. The Mason County boys finished in sixth place with 30 points. Highlands won the girls' state title with 91 points. The Mason County girls tied for 35th place with two points.

Adkins to walk-on at EKU, Myers will walk-on at MSU
Mason County track and field standouts Seth Adkins and Jim Myers will be rivals in college. Adkins will be a recruited walk-on at Eastern Kentucky University, while Myers will walk-on at Morehead State University.
Adkins was the region champion in the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash Saturday. He is also a member of Mason County's 4x200 meter and 4x400 meter relay teams that took first place in the region meet. Adkins set the school record in the 200 meter dash (21.9) at the Fleming County All-Comers Meet in April. He won the indoor 200 meters at Ohio State University. He was 27th in the 200 meters at the Nike Indoor Nationals in Boston. Adkins was second in the 55 meters and finished third in a school record time of 53.43 in the 400 meters at the Mason-Dixon Games.
Myers set the school record in the indoor 3,000 meter run (9:59.00) in February. He was a member of the 4x800 meter relay team that set a school record (9:17.23) at the Mason-Dixon Games. He won several races in 1600 meters, 3200 meters and 3000 meters. Myers finished eighth in the state cross country meet and was named All-State Honorable Mention by the Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Royals 2nd, Lady Royals 3rd at Harrison Co. meet
The Mason County boys took second place and the Mason County girls finished third in the 41st Annual Harrison County Invitational Saturday. Seth Adkins won the boys' 100 meter dash and boys' 200 meter dash. Colt Fearis won the boys' 400 meter dash, edging Josh Harris by 1/100th of a second. Adkins, Fearis and Harris teamed up with Bradley Lang to win the boys' 4x200 meter relay. Here is a link to the complete results.

Lady Royals 1st, Royals 2nd at Fleming County All-Comers
Mason County took first place in the girls' meet and second place in the boys' meet at the Fleming County All-Comers meet Thursday night. First place finishes by Mason County athletes include:
- Katie Redmond, girls' 100 meter dash;
- Valerie Rice, girls' 400 meter dash;
- Iretta Carpenter, girls' 100 meter hurdles and the girls' 300 meter hurdles;

Adkins 27th in Nike Indoor Nationals
Mason County senior Seth Adkins was 27th out of 73 runners in the 200 meters Saturday at the Nike Indoor Nationals in Boston. Adkins had a time of 22.73. Only the top eight advanced to the finals on Sunday. "On the national stage, his performance was very respectable," Mason County track and field Coach Mark Kachler wrote in an e-mail message. Adkins is just the second Mason County athlete to qualify for the Nike Indoor Nationals. Andy Fryman was the national champion in the shot put in 2003.(Photo credit: Kenton Murphy)

Seth Adkins leaves Friday for Nike Indoor Nationals
Mason County senior Seth Adkins leaves Friday for the Nike Indoor Nationals in Boston. The event takes place at the Reggie Lewis Center. The banked track is one of the fastest in the U.S. Adkins will compete in the preliminary races of the 200 meter dash Saturday afternoon. The top six will advance to the finals on Sunday. Adkins qualified for the Nike Indoor Nationals by having the fastest time at the University of Kentucky select meet last month. That's just one of his many highlights this season. Adkins won the indoor 200 meters at Ohio State University. He was second in the 55 meters and finished third with a school record time of 53.43 in the 400 meters in the Mason-Dixon Games last weekend.

Adkins 2nd in the 55m and 3rd in the 400m, four new school records set at Mason-Dixon Games
Mason County senior Seth Adkins finished second in the 55 meters (6.81) and third in the 400 meters (53.43) Saturday in the 50th Annual Mason-Dixon Games in Louisville. Adkins' time in the 400 meters is a new school record. Sophomore Valerie Rice finished 8th and set a new school record in the 800 meters in a time of 2:35.20. Two Mason County relay teams also set school records- the boys' 4x800 meter relay team of junior Connor Appelman, senior Jim Myers, 8th grader Nick Robinson and junior Nathan Woods (9:17.23), and the girls' 4x800 meter relay team of freshman Sarah Bellingham, freshman Raylee Kirkland, sophomore Valerie Rice and freshman Julia Woods (11:01.38). The Lady Royals' fifth place finish in the team standings is the best in school history. Mason County was ninth in the boys' meet. Here is a link to the results.

Deatley and Myers set schools at Mason County meet
Mason County seniors Ashley Deatley and Jim Myers both set school records at the Mason County track meet Saturday. Deatley set a record in the High Jump (4-10.00), and Myers set a record in the 3,000 meters (9:59.00). Mason County was fourth in the girls' meet and 12th in the boys' meet.

Adkins was the fastest Kentucky in the University of Kentucky select meet two weekends ago and qualified for the Nike National Indoor meet March 13 and 14 in Boston. Adkins is the first Mason County athlete to qualify for the Nike Indoor National meet since Andy Fryman won the Nike National in the shot put.

Adkins 3rd in the 200 meter dash, girls 4x800 team sets school record
Mason County senior Seth Adkins finished third in the boys' 200 meter dash in a time of 22.80 in the Wildcat Classic indoor track and field meet at the University of Kentucky Saturday. The girls' 4x800 meter relay team of Valerie Rice, Sarah Bellingham, Raylee Kirkland and Julia Woods set a new school record- 11:16.70- and finished 7th. Those same four girls had set the previous school record last year at the state indoor championships. Senior Jim Myers took 10th place in the boys' two-mile run with a time of 10:45.39. Mason County will host indoor meets the next five Saturdays.

Mason Co. hosts first indoor track and field meet of the season
Mason County hosted its first indoor track and field meet of the season Saturday. The Mason County high school and middle school boys' teams won their respective meets. The Mason County girls took third place in the high school meet and second place in the middle school meet. First place finishes by Mason County High School athletes include: Ashley Deatley in the girls' 400 meter dash, Seth Adkins in the boys' 55 meter dash and boys' 400 meter dash, Jim Myers in the boys' 3000 meter run, Brandon Jackson in the boys' long jump.
