St, Patrick senior Marvin Koch signs to play soccer at the University of the Cumberlands

St. Patrick senior Marvin Koch has signed to play soccer at the University of the Cumberlands.

In a post on St. Patrick's Saints Go Green Facebook page, Koch said he plans to study sport and fitness management.

He thanked all of his coaches and his parents, Joe and Wendy Koch.

He added that he wants to play professional soccer in Guatemala.

In the same Facebook post, St. Patrick soccer coach Father Michael Black said Koch is one of the most dynamic offensive players he has worked with and is sure he will continue to impress on and off the field with his skill and character.

Koch scored 11 goals and had 12 assists for the Saints last season.

Lexi Scales signs to play soccer at the University of Charleston

St. Patrick senior Lexi Scales has always wanted to play college soccer, so, she said signing today with the University of Charleston, a private school in Charleston, West Virginia was "a dream come true."

The Golden Eagles play in the Mountain East Conference in NCAA Division II.

Scales tried out for the team over Easter break.

"I really liked it; I liked the location especially," Scales said.

She added that the school was kind of small like St. Patrick.

"Lexi was just a special little girl who you could move all over the field, "St. Patrick coach Father Michael Black said. "She was so versatile. She was so well grounded. Soccer flows in her blood, and that's so hard to find in Maysville, Ky."

Scales said she is undecided on a major.

Nic Cress signs to play soccer at Spalding Unversity

St. Patrick senior Nic Cress signed today play soccer at Spalding University, a Catholic school in Louisvillle.

Cress, a goalkeeper, said he wanted to go to a school where he could play and not have to sit out two years, "I feel like, you know, Spalding is a place I can go and actually excel."

Cress had 12 shutouts for the Saints.

"It's a huge deal to come out of a school as small as St.Pat's to get a scholarship to go to play soccer, to go to college and do your sports, and to do them well," St. Patrick coach Father Michael Black said. "Nic's also an extremely bright kid. so he's going to get a good education there."
 
Cress said he plans to major in business, and possibly go to law school.

Spalding University is an NCAA Division III school. The Golden Eagles are members of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
