Reed scores 26 points, Lady Royals hit 15 3s in a win over Augusta

Amirah Reed made 5 3-pointers and scored 26 points and the Mason County Lady Royals hit a total of 15 3s in a win over the Augusta Lady Panthers on Wednesday night at The Fieldhouse.

Kyleigh Kirk made four 3-pointers and scored 13 points, Olivia Hughes followed with 12 points on four treys and Carlee Buttery hit two 3-pointers and finished with 11 points.

Laci Tackett led Augusta in scoring with 18 points.

Mason County (15-6) will host Montgomery County at The Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon. 

Augusta (8-12) will be at home vs. St. Patrick on Friday night.

Lady Royals lose to Parkersburg

The Mason County Lady Royals were unable to overcome a slow start and lost to the Parkersburg Big Reds on Saturday in the 5th Annual Winter Hoops Classic at Eastern Brown. 

Parkersburg, a Class 4A school from West Virginia, led 16-4 at the end of the first quarter and 33-19 at halftime.

Carlee Buttery led the Lady Royals in scoring with 16 points. Amirah Reed tossed in 13 points and Lexi Young added 12 points.

Mason County (13-6) will travel to Grayson on Monday night to play the East Carter Lady Raiders.

Lady Royals rout Greenup County 54-24

Carlee Buttery scored 17 points and Olivia Hughes added 11 as the Mason County Lady Royals routed the Greenup County Lady Musketeers 54-24 on Saturday night in the final game of the Mike Murphy Classic at The Fieldhouse.

The Lady Royals jumped out to a 12-0 lead and were up 29-8 at halftime on the way to running their season-opening winning streak to six games.

Mason County will play the Bracken County Lady Bears in Brooksville on Tuesday night.

Lady Royals rally to defeat Western Brown 67-53

Carlee Buttery scored a career-high 20 points as the Mason County Lady Royals rallied to defeat the Western Brown Lady Broncos 67-53 on Friday night in the opening game of the Mike Murphy Classic.

Mason County also got 15 points from Amirah Reed, 11 from Lexi Young and 10 from Olivia Hughes.

After trailing 31-27 at halftime, the Lady Royals outscored the Lady Broncos 40-22 in the second half to run their season-opening winning streak to five games.

Mason County will play Greenup County in the final game of the Mike Murphy Classic on Saturday at 8 p.m.

Lady Royals beat Pendleton County 65-60 in OT

The Mason County Lady Royals rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit to defeat the Pendleton County Lady Wildcats 65-60 in overtime on Monday night in Falmouth extending their season-opening winning streak to four games.

Lexi Young led four Lady Royals in double figure scoring with 19 points and pulled down her 500th career rebound. Olivia Hughes made three 3-pointers and scored 15 points. Amirah Reed made 5-of-6 free throws in the extra period and finished with 13 points. Carlee Buttery added 12 points.

Pendleton County junior Lilly Ashcraft scored 23 points including her 1,000th career point.

After trailing 30-21 at halftime, the Lady Royals opened the third period with a 15-0 run and outscored the Lady Wildcats 17-5 in the period.

Ashcraft banked in a floater to tie the game with one second left in the fourth quarter.

Mason County outscored Pendleton County 14-8 in the extra period. Buttery made a layup, Reed and Hughes both made a 3-pointer and Reed sealed the victory at the free throw line.

The Lady Royals will play Western Brown on Friday night in the Mike Murphy Classic at The Fieldhouse.

Nicole Archibald scores 29 points to lead Bracken County to district championship

Nicole Archibald scored 29 points to lead the Bracken County Lady Bears to a 64-52 win over the Mason County Lady Royals on Thursday night in the championship game of the 39th District Tournament at Bracken County.

Brianna Bauer added 12 points for the Lady Bears (17-14) who are back-to-back district champions.

Mason County (20-11) was led in scoring by Lexi Young with 19 points. Amirah Reed followed with 14 points and Carlee Buttery tossed in 10.

There were three lead changes and five ties in the first half.

Bracken County took control of the game with a 13-0 run from late in the second quarter to the 4:25 mark of the third quarter to lead 40-27.

Mason County cut the gap to 52-47 with 4:29 left in the game, but Archibald made 12-of-14 free throws in a span of three minutes and six seconds to push the lead to 64-49.

Both teams advance to the 10th Region Tournament at Bourbon County.

Lady Royals suffer a heartbreaking loss to Paintsville

The Mason County Lady Royals suffered a heartbreaking loss Saturday in the seventh place game of the Lady Panther Invitational Tournament in Pikeville. 

The Paintsville Lady Tigers made two free throws with three- tenths of a second on the clock to edge the Lady Royals 56-54.

Mason County led 41-30 with 5:38 left in the third quarter and were up 43-35 before Paintsville scored 13 straight points to begin a 16-2 run that gave the Lady Tigers a 51-45 lead with 3:46 remaining in the game. 

Paintsville was up 53-50 with 2:10 to go. Lexi Young made back-to-back layups to give the Lady Royals a 54-53 lead with 1:35 to play. 

Young fouled out with 1:04 left. Paintsville hit 1-of-2 free throws to tie the game.

Mason County missed a layup with 15 seconds remaining.

Paintsville played for the last shot, drew a foul and hit the game-winning free throws.

Young scored 15 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Carlee Buttery made three 3-pointers and scored 13 points and Olivia Hughes finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.

The Lady Royals (7-5) will play the Rowan County Lady Vikings Tuesday at 6 p.m. in a quarterfinal round game of the Kentucky 2A Championships Section 6 Tournament at The Fieldhouse.

Lady Royals cruise past Newport

The Mason County Lady Royals made 15 3-pointers (12 in the first half) and routed the Newport Ladycats 76-30 Friday night at the Lady Royals Gym.

The Lady Royals (7-2) led 32-7 and 61-22 at halftime en route to their third straight victory.

Lexi Young scored 16 points to pace Mason County. Amirah Reed made four 3-pointers and scored 14 points, Carlee Buttery hit three 3-pointers and had 13 points and Olivia Hughes made four three-pointers for her 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. 

The Lady Royals shot 46.2 percent and 46.9 percent from three-point range. 

Mason County will play Pikeville on December 28 at the Lady Panthers Invitational in Pikeville.

Lady Royals' winning streak snapped by loss to Portsmouth

The Mason County Lady Royals had their four-game winning streak snapped by a 62-36 loss to the Portsmouth Lady Trojans on Saturday night in Portsmouth.

The Lady Royals trailed 21-4 at the end of the first quarter and 44-12 at halftime.

Mason County (4-2) was led in scoring by Carlee Buttery with seven points.

The Lady Royals will travel to Versailles on Monday night to play Woodford County.

Lady Royals beat Bryan Station

Amirah Reed made four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 15 points, Carlee Buttery hit three 3-pointers and scored 11 points and Olivia Hughes added 10 points to lift the Mason County Lady Royals to a 45-41 victory over the Bryan Station Lady Defenders in the Mike Murphy Champions Classic at The Fieldhouse on Friday Night.

Nine of Mason County's 15 field goals were 3-pointers.

The Lady Royals (2-1) will play the Eastern Brown Lady Warriors Saturday at 4 p.m. in the Mike Murphy Champions Classic.

Lady Royals lose season opener

The Mason County Lady Royals opened their 50th basketball season with a 67-43 loss to the Bishop Brossart Lady 'Stangs on Friday night in Alexandria.

Mason County was only down four points at the end of the first quarter but the Lady 'Stangs outscored the Lady Royals 17-6 in the second quarter and 18-10 in the fourth quarter.

Carlee Buttery scored a career-high 17 points for Mason County. Amirah Reed added 12 points.

The Lady Royals will travel to Brooksville on Monday night to play the Bracken County Lady Bears.
