Mason Co, and Augusta win in region semifinals; meet in finals Tuesday night

The Mason County Royals and the Augusta Panthers were winners in the semifinals of the 10th Region Tournament tonight and will meet in the finals Tuesday night at the Montgomery County High School Arena. 

It's a rematch of the 39th District Tournament championship game. Augusta won that game 63-61.

Mason County 67, Paris 63

The Paris Greyhounds led 27-8 with 7:48 left in the second quarter of the first semifinal game. Mason County switched to a zone and the Royals outscored the Greyhounds 25-16 in the second quarter and 20-8 in the third quarter and held on for a 67-63 win.

Mason County led by as many as nine points in the fourth quarter and was up 64-58 with one minute to play. Paris closed to within two at 65-63 and had a chance to play for the last shot, but a held ball in the lane gave the ball to Mason County with four seconds left. 

Antwavon "Pig" Williams hit two free throws with 1.9 seconds on the clock to seal the win. Williams had a game-high 25 points including his 1,000th career point. Isaiah Garrison scored 21 points. 

Eric Johnson led Paris in scoring with 17 points. Jekobi Wells had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Augusta 63, Montgomery Co. 49

Augusta shot 60% percent from the field in a 63-49 victory over the Montgomery County Indians in the lower bracket semifinal game.

Augusta spread the floor and drove to the basket for numerous layups. After leading by six at halftime, the Panthers scored the first six points of the third quarter. 

Augusta led by eight at the end of the third quarter, then, opened the fourth quarter on an 11-3 run to lead 53-37 with three minutes to play. Montgomery County tried a full court press, but the Panthers broke it for several easy baskets.

Montgomery County would get no closer than eight points. 

Augusta has won 11 straight games.

Connor Maddox led Augusta with a game-high 25 points.Jared Shoemaker tossed in 13.

Casewell Fuller led Montgomery County in scoring with 17 points. Jerryd Jones added 13.

Royals outlast Fleming County 69-60

Treg Setty and Tyler Black combined for 43 points and 29 rebounds to lead the Mason County Royals to a 69-60 win over the Fleming County Panthers tonight at The Fieldhouse. Mason County had first half leads of 7-0, 20-10 and 30-22. But Fleming County scored the last eight points of the second quarter to tie the game at 30-30. The Panthers opened the third quarter with four straight points to lead 34-30. Mason County led 49-47 at the end of the third quarter and outscored Fleming County 20-13 in the fourth quarter. Setty had 22 points and 19 rebounds. Black scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Jordan Gilbert added 16 points. Mason County has won three straight games. The Royals host Rowan County Friday night in the Pepsi/Mountain Dew Classic.

  • Treg Setty moved past Allen Feldhaus Jr. into 15th place on the Royals' all-time scoring list with 1,252 career points;
  • Neal Pawsat practiced (non-contact) with the freshman team today. Mason County Coach Chris O'Hearn said hopefully Pawsat will be able to see his first action of the season in a couple of weeks;
  • Junior guard Connor Osborne missed his third straight game with an ankle injury.

Royals routed by Lexington Catholic 83-59

Lexington Catholic's depth and pressure defense was too much for Mason County as the Knights routed the Royals 83-59 Monday in the Iolani Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii. Lexington Catholic's lead was just four points at 44-40 with 3:20 left in the third quarter, but the Knights ended the quarter on a 16-9 run and outscored the Royals 23-10 in the fourth quarter. Lexington Catholic scored 27 points off 17 Mason County turnovers. The Knights had 17 points off the bench compared to just two for Mason County. Tyler Black had a game-high 25 points for Mason County. Connor Osborne scored a career-high 12 points and Treg Setty added 11 points. Mason County will play the Iolani Raiders in the seventh place game Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. (Maysville time).

Mason Co. boys and girls golf teams beat Highlands

The Mason County boys and girls golf teams both beat Highlands today at A. J. Jolly Golf Course in Campbell County. The Royals won by four shots. The Lady Royals posted a 23-shot victory.
Bradley Litzinger was the boys' medalist with a 37. Tanner Walton followed with a 38. Dee Hampton and Connor Osborne added 40s. Tiara Harris claimed medalist honors for the girls with a 43. Christian Arn had a 45. The Royals are 7-2-2. The Lady Royals are 8-1.

Royals beat Camels at A.J. Jolly Golf Course

The Mason County Royals defeated the Campbell County Camels 167-183 today at A. J. Jolly Golf Course in Campbell County. Bradley Litzinger and Dee Hampton were co-medalists with 41s.
Jackson Frame shot a 42 and Connor Osborne had a 43. The Royals' record is 6-2-2.

Royals 6th in Madison Central Invitational

The Mason County Royals finished in sixth place out of 16 teams in the Madison Central Invitational Saturday at Battlefield Golf Club in Richmond. Bradley Litzinger led Mason County with a 77. Jackson Frame followed with a 79. Dee Hampton shot an 84. Connor Osborne had an 86. Tanner Walton shot an 87 and Tyler Lippert had a 92.

Mason Co. boys and girls golf teams beat Bishop Brossart

The Mason County boys and girls golf teams both defeated Bishop Brossart Thursday at A.J. Jolly Golf Course in Campbell County. The Royals won 159-172 to improve their record to 3-0-1. Jackson Frame was the medalist with a 36. Bradley Litzinger followed by a 40. Connor Osborne had a 41 and Tanner Walton and Dee Hampton shot 43s.
The Lady Royals won 170-260. Christen Cropper took medalist honors with a 40. Lauren Vice, Tiara Harris and Bridgit Morris shot 44s. Christian Arn had a 47 and Sarah Fite shot a 51.

Lady Royals beat Pendleton Co, Royals tie Wildcats

The Mason County Lady Royals defeated the Pendleton County Lady Wildcats 170-188 Wednesday at Pendleton County Country Club. Bridgit Morris and Christen Cropper shot 41s and tied for medalist. Tiara Harris and Christian Arn had 44s, and Lauren Vice shot a 45. The Lady Royals are 1-0.
The Mason County Royals and the Pendleton County Wildcats tied 162-162. The Royals (2-0-1), were led by Tanner Walton's 39. Bradley Litzinger shot a 40, Connor Osborne had a 41 and Dee Hampton shot a 42.

Ryne King All-State Honorable Mention, Connor Osborne selected for Sophomore Showcase

Mason County infielder and pitcher Ryne King was named All-State Honorable Mention by the Kentucky High School Baseball Coaches Association. King, who graduated last month, was named the Royals' Most Valuable Player. Mason County center fielder and pitcher Connor Osborne was selected for the Sophomore Showcase which was held today at the University of Louisville.

Royals end regular season with a win over Paris at Laurel Oaks

The Mason County boys golf team ended the regular season today with a 163-197 win over Paris on the back nine at Laurel Oaks Golf Club. Tanner Walton was the medalist with a 2-over-par 38. Josh Harris was next with a 41. Jackson Frame, Eric White and Connor Osborne each shot a 42. The Royals head to the regional tournament Monday at Eagle Creek Golf Course in Grant County with a 10-1 record.
The Mason County girls golf team ended the regular season with 13-0 record after a forfeit win over Bishop Brossart. The girls regional golf tournament is Monday at Houston Oaks Golf Course in Paris.

Mason Co. boys 4th in Bluegrass Conference Tournament

The Mason County boys golf team finished in fourth place Monday in the Bluegrass Conference Tournament at Cynthiana Country Club. The Royals were lead by Bradley Litzinger with a 3-over-par 39 and Conner Osborne with a 40.

Lady Royals beat Bourbon Co, Royals lose to Colonels

The Mason County Lady Royals defeated the Bourbon County Lady Colonels 178 t0 214 Monday on the front nine at Houston Oaks Golf Course in Paris. Mason County was led by Tiara Harris with a 39 and Christen Cropper with a 45. The Mason County Royals lost to Bourbon County 166 to 156 at Stoner Creek Country Club in Paris. The Royals were led by Tanner Walton with a 38 and Connor Osborne with a 42.
