First round of the region tennis tournament played Sunday

The first round of the 10th Region tennis tournaments got underway Sunday at the Harrison County Tennis Complex in Cynthiana.

Mason County players advancing include:

• Kaitlyn Cottam in girls' singles.
• Timmy Douglas in boys' singles.
• Rachel Rister and Katie Swisshelm in girls' doubles
• Piece Clarke and Josh Coleman in boys' doubles.

The second round begins today at 2 p.m.

Mason County junior Tessa Gray, the No. 1 seed in the girls' singles tournament, had a first round bye. She plays Jenna Sanders of Nicholas County today.

Royals Beat Colonels by 3 Shots at Houston Oaks

The Mason County Royals beat the Bourbon County Colonels 174-177 today at Houston Oaks Golf Course in Paris. Tyler Lippert was the medalist with a one-over 37. Kaleb Coleman carded a 45 and Bryan Walton and Josh Coleman shot 46s.

Mason County 7th in Grant JV Tournament

Mason County took seventh place in the Grant County junior varsity golf tournament. Spencer Magee tied for second with a 43. Josh Coleman carded a 48. Tanner Pitakis and Evan Schumacher shot 54s and Daniel Taylor shot a 56.
