The Mason County Lady Royals track and field team wins region championships

The Mason County Lady Royals won the Class AA, Region 6 track and field meet on Thursday at the Mason County track and field complex.

The Lady Royals accumulated 179 points. The Ashland Kittens finished a distance second with 97 points. The Fleming County Lady Panthers took fifth place and the Lewis County Lady Lions finished in eighth place.

The Russell Red Devils won the boys' meet. The Mason County Royals tied for sixth place. The Fleming County Panthers finished in eighth place and the Lewis County Lions followed in ninth place.

Mason County athletes who are region champions in events include:

Rachel Payne, the girls' 100 meter hurdles (16.91) and the 300 meter hurdles (47.76)

Kenzie Gulley, girls' long jump, (16.06.25)

Morgan Carpenter, girls' pole vault, (8-00.00)

The girls' 4x100 meter relay team of Karis Applegate, Kenzie Gulley, Madison Hall and Neveah Wright (51.91)

The girls' 4x400 meter relay team of Morgan Carpenter, Rachel Payne, Paige Decker and Avery Sims (4:19.00)

Two Fleming County athletes are region champions -- Logan Pinkley, the boys' 110 meter hurdles (16.20) and the boys' triple jump (38-08.50) and Erin Pease, girls' triple jump, (31-10.00).

The KHSAA Class AA State Track and Field Championships are scheduled Friday, June 11 at the University of Kentucky.
