Bracken County and Mason County winners in district semifinals
The Bracken County Polar Bears and the Mason County Royals posted semifinal wins in the 39th District baseball tournament today. Bracken County beat St. Patrick 14-4 in five innings, and Mason County defeated Augusta 11-1 in six innings. Bracken County and St. Patrick were tied 4-4 before the Polar Bears scored six runs in the fourth inning and four in the fifth. Mason County broke-open a close game with six runs in the fourth inning. Mason County junior Lee Sutton pitched a complete game. He struck out 11 and only gave up four hits. He was 4-for-4 at the plate. Cory Woods hit a two-run home run in the first inning. Mason County and Bracken County will meet in the championship game Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Mason County. The game will be on WFTM-AM 1240 and online at www.wftm.net.
