Setty's double-double leads Royals to 63-48 win over Camels

Treg Setty scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Mason County Royals to a 63-48 road win over the Campbell County Camels tonight. There were three lead changes and four ties in the first quarter. Mason County led by as many as 10 in the second quarter, 11 in the third quarter and 17 in the fourth quarter. The Royals starting guards-Russ Middleton and Keith Downing- had their playing time limited by foul trouble. Downing fouled out in the fourth quarter and only played 10:40. Middleton did not play in the fourth quarter and was limited to 17:27. Middleton scored six points and tied Wesley Jones for sixth place on the Royals' all-time scoring list. Setty scored 15 of his 25 points in the first half. He has had three double-doubles in the last four games. Neal Pawsat scored 15 points. Patrick Nerl was Campbell County's leading scorer with 14 points, Brady Jolly added 13 points. Campbell County center Petey Albrecht suffered an ankle injury with 51 seconds to play in the second quarter and sat out the rest of the game. Mason County returns to action Monday night at Paul Dunbar.

State Tournament Draws

The draws for the boys' and girls' state basketball tournaments were conducted today by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association. In the girls' tournament, the 10th Region champion will play the 7th Region champion at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11. Manual, Mercy and Sacred Heart are the top teams in the girls' 7th Region. In the boys' tournament,
the 10th Region champion will play the 15th Region champion at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 19. Shelby Valley is a heavy favorite to win the boys' 15th Region.

More cancellations

The St. Patrick at Augusta boys' basketball game is cancelled tonight. The indoor track meet at Mason County is cancelled Saturday. The US Bank/Mason County Indoor Athletic Complex will be open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. for open sessions for athletes who can get there.

Spectrum Grafx Classic cancelled Friday night

The Spectrum Grafx Classic- a girl-boy basketball doubleheader between Rowan County and Mason County at The Fieldhouse Friday night- has been cancelled.

Update- The games have been rescheduled, but not as a girl-boy doubleheader. The Mason County-Rowan County boys' games will be played Thursday, Feb. 5 at The Fieldhouse (Junior Varsity at 6 pm, Varsity at 7:30 p.m.). The girls' games are rescheduled on Feb. 14 at The Fieldhouse (Junior Varsity at 1 p.m., Varsity at 2:30 p.m.)
The Fleming County at Mason County boys' games postponed Tuesday have been rescheduled on Sunday, Feb. 8 (Junior Varsity at 2 p.m., Varsity at 3:30 p.m.)

The Mason County football alumni dinner will be held as scheduled Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the football weight room. Check the earlier post below for the details.

Annual Mason County Football Alumni Dinner

The annual Mason County football alumni dinner/weight room open house will be held Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the Mason County football field/weight room. All former Maysville and Mason County football players are invited to attend and view the facility. Miller scores 12 points in UK Loss

Darius Miller had 12 points, nine rebounds and five assists in Kentucky's 85-80 loss to Ole Miss Tuesday night. Kentucky hosts South Carolina on Saturday.

Klee leads Lady Saints past Lady Royals 65-59

Anne Klee (photo) scored a career-high 27 points to lead the St. Patrick Lady Saints to a 65-59 win over the Mason County Lady Royals tonight at Mason County. Klee was 10-of-15 from the field and grabbed nine rebounds. Charisma Payne scored 13 points and Chelsea Douglas added 12 points. Keller Menke had a game-high 28 points for Mason County. Menke also had eight rebounds.
St. Patrick hosts Campbell County Thursday night. Mason County plays Rowan County Friday night at The Fieldhouse.

Big turnout for Reds Fan Stop in Maysville















About 300 fans turned out for the Cincinnati Reds Winter Caravan Fan Stop today at the Maysville Conference Center. It was the final stop for the southern leg of the caravan. The group included broadcasters Marty Brennaman and Chris Welsh, Gold Glove second baseman Brandon Phillips, minor league catcher Devin Mesoraco, Reds Hall of Famer Lee May,

Locals hoop it up on the college courts

Here is how the local college players did Saturday:
  • Darius Miller did not score, but he played a very solid game as Kentucky pulled out a 61-51 road win over Alabama. Miller had seven rebounds, two assists, three blocks and two steals. He played the entire second half after Ramon Harris collapsed at halftime;
  • Mikah Turner scored 17 points, but Berea College lost to Indiana University-East 78-75 in overtime. Turner also had five rebounds, two assists and one steal;
  • Chris Owens had six points and four rebounds to help Transylvania beat Manchester 69-55;
  • De"Sarae Chambers scored one point and had four rebounds and one steal in Dayton's 60-57 loss to Charlotte.

Reds Fan Stop in Maysville is today

The Cincinnati Reds Winter Caravan makes a Fan Stop in Maysville this afternoon. The event takes place at the Maysville Conference Center from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. Broadcasters Marty Brennaman and Chris Welsh, second baseball Brandon Phillips, minor league catcher Devin Mesoraco and Reds Hall of Famer Lee May are scheduled to be here. The event is free and open to the public.

Lady Royals' rally comes up short in 54-52 loss to Scott

After falling behind by 23 points, the Mason County Lady Royals put together a furious rally, but came up short in a 54-52 loss to the Scott Lady Eagles tonight in the Kenton County Classic at Scott. Keller Menke scored 30 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Mason County hosts St. Patrick Monday night.

The Mason County Lady Royals lost to the Louisville Ballard Lady Bruins 72-57 Friday night in the consolation bracket of the Kenton County Classic. Mason County (5-13) plays the Scott Lady Eagles today at 5:30 p.m. at Scott. The Lady Eagles beat the Lady Royals 64-50 on Dec. 6.

Royals beat Henry Clay 54-44 in Lexington

The Mason County Royals started slow, but used a big second half to beat Henry Clay 54-44 tonight in Lexington. Mason County trailed by as many as eight points in the first half and was down 29-24 in the third quarter before going on a 20-4 run. Treg Setty had a double-double,
18 points and 11 rebounds. Russ Middleton scored 12 points and Keith Downing added 10 points.
Mason County hosts Fleming County Tuesday night.

Saints fall to Calvary Christian in All "A" 10th Region

The St. Patrick Saints lost to the Calvary Christian Cougars 74-64 tonight in the semifinals of the boys' All "A" 10th Region Tournament. The game was tied at 39-39 with 3:44 left in the third quarter. Calvary Christian ended the quarter on a 9-0 and led by as 14 in the fourth quarter.
St. Patrick twice cut the deficit to six, but could get no closer. Stephen Mason led St. Patrick with 16 points. Lee Gallenstein scored 12 and Andy Clarke added 10. The Saints host Pendleton County Tuesday night.

Mason County boys' frosh now 9-3

Three straight win in the last two weeks have pushed the Mason County boys' freshman team's record to 9-3.

Mason County defeated Bourbon Co 51-40. Tyler Black led three Royals in double figures with 19 points. He was followed by Josh Harris with 12 and Connor Osborne with 11.

Mason County traveled to Brooksville and defeated Bracken County 55-32. Tyler Black led the Royals with 18 points and was followed in double figures by Connor Osborne with 13.

The Royals traveled to Falmouth on Wednesday night and came away with a 44-35 victory. Tyler Black scored 18 points and Josh Harris added 13.
The freshman return to action Monday night at the Fieldhouse to take on Bryan Station. Game time is 6pm.

Saints beat Polar Bears advance to semis of All "A" Region

The St. Patrick Saints defeated the Bracken County Polar Bears 72-59 tonight to advance to the semifinals of the All "A" 10th Region Tournament. After trailing by 13 after three quarters, Bracken County opened the final quarter on a 14-6 run to get to within five at 54-49. But St. Patrick was able to pull away again for its third win over Bracken County this season.
St. Patrick will play Calvary Christian in the lower bracket semifinal game Friday at 8 p.m. at Nicholas County. Calvery Christian defeated Nicholas County 60-44 tonight. St. Patrick beat Calvary Christian 72-62 on Jan. 13.

Chambers has five points and five rebounds for Flyers

De' Sarae Chambers scored five points and grabbed five rebounds and the Dayton Flyers edged Duquesne Wednesday night. Dayton improves to 2-1 in the Atlantic 10. The Flyers play at Charlotte on Saturday.

Saints vs. Polar Bears tonight in All "A" 10th Region Tourney

The St. Patrick Saints play the Bracken County Polar Bears tonight at 8 o'clock in the quarterfinal round of the boys' All "A" 10th Region Tournament at Nicholas County.
It will be the fourth time St. Patrick has played Bracken County this season.
  • St. Patrick outscored Bracken County 95-93 at Bracken County on Dec. 4;
  • The Polar Bears edged the Saints 86-83 in the Covered Bridge Classic at Fleming County on Dec. 20 for their first win of the season;
  • The Saints beat the Polar Bears 81-72 in the First National Bank Holiday Tournament at Bracken County on Dec. 27;

St. Patrick is 6-10. The Saints have not played since Jan. 13 when they snapped a four-game losing streak with a 72-62 victory over Calvary Christian. Bracken County is 5-13. The Polar Bears have won two straight games and three of their last four. Calvary Christian and Nicholas County play in the first game tonight at 6:30. The winners of tonight's games will meet in the lower bracket semifinal game Friday at 8 p.m. Bishop Brossart and Deming posted wins last night and will meet in the upper bracket semifinal game Friday at 6:30 p.m. The championship game is Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Lofton scores 10 points in Mersin BSB. win today

Chris Lofton scored 10 points and Mersin BSB. beat Oyak Renault 84-74 today in the Turkish Basketball League. The victory snapped a two-game losing streak. Lofton is sixth in the league in points per game (18) and 13th in total points (234).

Turner scores 29 points in Berea's loss to IU Southeast

Mikah Turner made seven three-pointers and scored 29 points, but Berea College lost to IU Southeast 90-81 Tuesday night. Turner has scored 20 or more points in 11 games this season.
He has scored 30 or more in two games. Turner is 11th in Division II in three-point field goals made per game (3.33) and 21st in points per game (20.389).

Lady Saints beat Holmes 63-59 in OT

Three Lady Saints scored in double figures in a 63-59 overtime win over the Holmes Lady Bulldogs Tuesday night. Cora Chamberlain scored 18 points. Anne Klee had a double-double, 14 points and 23 rebounds, and Leslie Pfeffer added 10 points. St. Patrick (9-4) plays at Mason County Monday night.

Mason County beats Madison Central 58-43

The Mason County Royals out shot the Madison Central Indians 54% to 32% from the field and won 58-43 tonight at The Fieldhouse. Mason County jumped out to a 17-4 lead and led by as many as 19 in the fourth quarter. The Royals used their height advantage to score on numerous post-up baskets. Treg Setty led the way with 17 points and seven rebounds. Neal Pawsat scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds and Russ Middleton added 11 points and six assists. Keith Downing had six points, five rebounds, five assists, three blocks and one steal. The Royals had 25 field goals on 15 assists. Mason County plays at Henry Clay Friday night.

Nick Robinson named Middle School Boys' Athlete of the Week

Mason County 7th grader Nick Robinson has been named Middle School Boys' Athlete of the Week by KYTRACKXC.COM. Robinson won both the 800 meter run (2:46.23) and 1,600 meter run (5:55.85) at the KTCCCA indoor meet at Mason County last Saturday. The Mason County girls' varsity cross country team will be honored tonight at halftime of the Madison Central at Mason County boys' basketball game for its accomplishments this past season.

The 5th annual Mason County football alumni dinner/weight room open house is scheduled Jan. 30 at 5:30 p.m. at the Mason County football field/weight room. Lady Royals lose to Highlands 65-57 in Kenton Co. Classic

The Mason County Lady Royals lost to the Highlands Lady Bluebirds 65-57 today in the opening round of the Kenton County Classic. Mason County led 28-26 at the half. Highlands is the top team in the 9th Region. The Lady Royals committed 32 turnovers. The Lady Bluebirds had 22 offensive rebounds. Mason County junior Keller Menke scored a game-high 26 points. Beth Queen added 11 points. The Lady Royals will play again Friday at 8:15 p.m. against the loser of tomorrow night's game between Conner and Louisville Ballard.

Mason County hosts first indoor track meet of the year

The first of six indoor track meets was held Saturday at the US Bank/Mason County Indoor Athletic Complex. In the high school meets, the Mason County girls finished second and the Mason County boys were third. In the middle school meets, the Mason County boys took first place and the Mason County girls were second. Mason County athletes with first place finishes in the high school meets and their events include:

Miller scores four points in Uk win over Georgia

Darius Miller scored four points in Kentucky's 68-45 win over Georgia today. Miller was 1-of-1 from the field and 2-of-2 from the free throw line. He also had two rebounds and one steal. The Wildcats host Auburn Wednesday night.

Lady Royals beat Fillies 52-48 for second straight

The Mason County Lady Royals defeated the Harrison County Fillies 52-48 tonight for their second straight win. There were 10 ties and 12 lead changes in the game. McKenzie Butler made 4-of-4 free throws down the stretch. Keller Menke had a double, double- 15 points and 10 rebounds. Beth Queen had 15 points and eight rebounds. Alicia Moore came off the bench to score 10 points. The Lady Royals play the Highlands Lady Bluebirds Monday at 3:30 p.m. at Simon Kenton in the opening round of the Kenton County Classic.

Lady Saints lose to Lady Hounds in All "A" Region Final

The St. Patrick Lady Saints lost to the Paris Lady Hounds 47-44 tonight in the championship game of the girls' All "A" 10th Region Tournament. Paris led 17-5 after the first quarter.   • Mikah Turner scored 16 points and had five rebounds, four assists and four steals to lead Berea to a 75-35 win over St. Louis College of Pharmacy;
  • Miranda Hales had two rebounds, three assists and one steal in Berea's 110-29 rout of St. Louis College of Pharmacy;
  • De'Sarae Chambers had six points, four rebounds and one steal in Dayton's 51-49 loss to Xavier;

Royals lose to Lex. Cath. 64-61 in OT

The Lexington Catholic Knights outlasted the Mason County Royals 64-61 in overtime tonight at The Fieldhouse. There were seven ties and 14 lead changes in the game. Mason County led by 11 early in the third quarter. Lexington Catholic rallied to lead by five in the fourth quarter. Russ Middleton hit a two-pointer on the buzzer to send the game to overtime. The Knights outscored the Royals 6-3 in the overtime period. Mason County shot 50% from the field in the first half, but just 19.6% the rest of the way including 0-for-10 in the extra period. Vee Sanford led Lexington Catholic with 22 points. Treg Setty had a career-high 29 points and 17 rebounds for Mason County. Russ Middleton 16 points. Keith Downing had 13 rebounds. Mason County hosts Madison Central Tuesday night.

Lady Saints advance to All "A" Region final with a 49-40 win over Bracken County

The St. Patrick Lady Saints defeated the Bracken County Lady Bears 49-40 tonight in the semifinals of the girls' All "A" 10th Region Tournament at Bishop Brossart. St. Patrick led 23-4 at the end first quarter. Bracken County closed to within two at 37-35, but the Lady Saints ended the game on a 12-5 run. Anne Klee led St. Patrick in scoring with 14 points. Cora Chamberlain added 13. St. Patrick will play in the championship game Saturday at 7:30 p.m. against the winner of the semifinal game between Paris and Deming.

Grutza signs with an agent, takes a shot at the NFL

Former Mason County and University of Cincinnati quarterback Dustin Grutza signed with an agent last week and is attending a five-week NFL training camp in Tampa. He also plans to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine next month in Indianapolis. Grutza passed for 4,476 yards and 29 touchdowns in his four seasons at UC. Grutza suffered a broken leg against Oklahoma last Sept. 6. He returned to action Nov. 14.

Lady Saints roll past Augusta in All "A" Region

The St. Patrick Lady Saints led 22-4 at the end the first quarter and cruised to a 70-23 victory over the Augusta Lady Panthers tonight in the opening round of the girls' All "A" 10th Region Tournament at Bishop Brossart. Three Lady Saints scored in double figures-Ciera Payne with 13 points, Leslie Pfeffer 11 and Anne Klee 10. St. Patrick advances to the semifinals to play the Bracken County Lady Bears Friday at 6:30 pm. Bracken County defeated Nicholas County 61-39 in the opening game tonight.

Turner's 23 points lead Berea College to an 83-76 win

Mikah Turner scored 23 points and had seven rebounds to lead Berea College to an 83-76 wn over Cincinnati Christian University Tuesday night. Turner made four three-pointers and had two steals and one assist. Berea College is 9-7 overall and 1-1 in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Mountaineers' next game is Saturday at home against St. Louis College of Pharmacy.

Miller plays 21 minutes, scores seven points on Meeks' record-setting night

Darius Miller played 21 minutes and scored seven points in Kentucky's 90-72 victory over Tennessee last night. Jodie Meeks scored a school-record 54 points and hit a school-record 10 three-pointers to lead the Wildcats. Miller also had three rebounds, two blocks and one assist.

Mason and Gallenstein combine for 48 points in Saints' win

Stephen Mason and Lee Gallenstein combined for 48 points to lead the St. Patrick Saints to a 72-62 win over Calvary Christian Tuesday night. Mason scored a game-high 31 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Gallenstein added 17 points. St. Patrick's next game is Jan. 22 at 8 p.m. vs. Bracken County in the boys' All "A" 10th Region Tournament at Nicholas County.

Five Royals score in double figures in win over Pendleton Co.

Five Royals scored in double figures and Mason County beat the Pendleton County Wildcats 95-63 tonight in Falmouth. Russ Middleton led the way with 20 points and moved past his dad, Kelly, into seventh place on the Royals' all-time scoring list. Keith Downing scored a career-high 14 points. Downing also had eight steals, five rebounds, five assists and three blocks. Treg Setty scored 14 points. Jordan Gilbert added 12 points. Justin Lang had a career-high 10 points. Bradley Lang tossed in a career-high seven points, and freshman Tyler Black added a career-high five points. Mason County scored 35 points off turnovers. Mason County hosts Lexington Catholic Friday night.

Devin Mesoraco and Lee May added to Reds Winter Caravan stop in Maysville

Minor league catcher Devin Mesoraco and former slugger Lee May have been added to the list of Cincinnati Reds personnel scheduled to attend the Fan Stop in Maysville as part of the Reds Winter Caravan. Mesoraco was the Reds' 2007 first-round draft pick. May played for the Reds from 1965-71. The former first baseman is a member of the Reds Hall of Fame.
Broadcaster Marty Brennaman, second baseman Brandon Phillips, Director of Business Operations Dick Williams and the mascot "Gapper" are also scheduled to attend the Fan Stop which is scheduled January 25 from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. at the Maysville Conference Center. Mason County juniors Keller Menke and Beth Queen combined for 41 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Lady Royals to a 73-62 victory over the West Carter Lady Comets tonight. Menke had a double-double, 22 points and 10 rebounds. Queen had 19 points and six rebounds. Bailey Menke added 10 points. Monica Stevens had a game-high 24 points and 14 rebounds for West Carter. Chris Lofton scored a game-high 24 points, but Mersin BSB. lost to Kepez Belediye 88-84 tonight in Turkish Basketball League. Lofton is sixth in the league scoring with an average of 18.1 points per game.

Turner scores 13 points in Berea's loss to Pikeville

Mikah Turner had 13 points and nine rebounds for Berea College in a 94-77 loss to Pikeville College on Saturday. Pikeville College, coached by former Mason County Coach Kelly Wells, is 11-5. The Bears play their Mid-South Conference opener Thursday night at home against Campbellsville University. Berea College hosts Cincinnati Christian University Tuesday night.

The Mason County Lady Royals made a couple of second half runs but came up short in a 67-59 loss to the North Adams Green Devils tonight in Seaman, Oh. North Adams junior Karli Beasley scored a game-high 28 points and had 11 rebounds. Mason County junior Keller Menke scored 23 points and grabbed 18 rebounds. Beth Queen added 10 points. Miller has two points and six rebounds in UK's SEC opener

The Kentucky Wildcats opened Southeastern Conference play today with a 70-60 victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores at Rupp Arena. Darius Miller scored two points and grabbed six rebounds. He played 14 minutes. Kentucky (12-4, 1-0) plays at Tennessee Tuesday night.

Lady Saints battle Lady Cardinals, but lose 65-62

In their final game before the All "A" 10th Region tournament, the St. Patrick Lady Saints gave the Clark County Lady Cardinals all they wanted before losing 65-62 at home last night. Clark County is the second ranked team on the region. St. Patrick (6-3) plays the Augusta Lady Panthers in the opening round of the All "A" regional tournament Wednesday night at Bishop Brossart.

9-0 run pushes Scott County past Mason County 71-64

The Scott County Cardinals ended the game on a 9-0 run to beat the Mason County Royals 71-64 tonight in Georgetown. There were eight ties and seven lead changes in the game. Russ Middleton scored 17 points in the first quarter to give Mason County a 20-13 lead. The Royals led by 11 early in the second quarter. Neal Pawsat took an elbow to the head in the second quarter and sat out the rest of the game. Scott County cut the lead to two at the half and opened the third quarter on 7-0 run. Mason County bounced back and led 50-48 after three quarters. Mason County was up 64-62 and headed to free throw line for a 1-and-1 with 53 seconds to play in the game. The game was delayed for several minutes after a fan became ill right behind the Royals' bench. When play resumed, Middleton missed the free throw and Scott County went on the 9-0 run on three old-fashioned three-point plays. Middleton scored a career-high 31 points. The loss snapped the Royals' six-game winning streak. Mason County plays at Pendleton County Tuesday night.

Cincinnati Reds Winter Caravan is coming to Maysville

The Cincinnati Reds Winter Caravan will make a Fan Stop in Maysville later this month. There are three legs to this year's caravan. Marty Brennaman's bus will be making a stop at the Maysville Conference Center on Sunday, Jan. 25 from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. Brennaman, second baseman Brandon Phillips, at least one other player, Director of Business Operations Dick Williams and the mascot "Gapper" are scheduled to be in Maysville. The appearances are subject to change. The event is free and open the public. Fans are invited to get autographs and photos. The Reds will raffle off two tickets to the Opening Day game against the New York Mets.

Middle School Football Skills Camp

Here is the press release from Mason County football Coach David Buchanan:

The Mason County High School football staff will be hosting a series of skills camps at the high school football field. Each camp will begin at 3:45 pm and go until 5:45 pm. In case of cold/wet weather, the camp will be held inside using the locker rooms and weight rooms. The dates are as follows:

Wide Receivers and Defensive Backs- February 9,10, & 12
Offensive and Defensive lineman- Feb 16, 17, & 19
Linebackers and Running Backs- March 2,3, & 5

This will be for grades 7 & 8. Offensive coordinator and WR coach Chris Ullery will lead the WR/DB camp. Former Royal lineman and current high school football coach Jonathan Thomas will be in charge of the lineman camp. Defensive coordinator and RB coach Larry Harris wll be in charge of the LB/RB camp.
This camp will give middle school football players the opportunity to work with the high school coaches that coach their position, or a position they are interested in. Players can attend all three clinics.
Before the camp begins, the high school staff will go to the middle school to meet with players interested in attending camp. If you have questions, you can contact the the following:

The St. Patrick Saints lost to the Deming Black Devils 61-58 tonight in Mt. Olivet. It is Deming's second win over St. Patrick this season. The Saints were without Matt Thompson who has an ankle injury. Stephen Mason led St. Patrick with 18 points. Lee Gallenstein scored 14 and Ryan Gallenstein added 10. Deming was lead by the King twins- Kyle scored a game-high 24 pounts and Luke scored 18. Nathan Mitchell followed with 11 points. St. Patrick plays at Bishop Brossart Friday night.

Chambers scores 11 points in Dayton's win over Eastern Michigan

De'Sarae Chambers scored 11 points to help the Dayton Flyers beat Eastern Michigan 61-54 today. Chambers also had five rebounds, three blocks and one assist. Chambers was named the
Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week last week.

Royals top Camels 63-43 for Pepsi MCIT championship

The Mason County Royals used pressure defense and controlled the boards to beat the Campbell County Camels 63-43 today in the championship game of the Pepsi Mason County Invitational Tournament. Mason County led by 10 at 36-26 before Campbell County closed to within three at 36-33. The Royals then went on a 27-7 run to lead by 23 at 63-40. Mason County forced Campbell County to commit 20 turnovers (13 in the second half), and the Royals outrebounded the Camels 31-16 (16-2 on the offensive end). Russ Middleton led Mason County with 15 points. Jordan Gilbert matched his career-high of 12 points on four three-pointers.
The Royals were without Keith Downing who missed the game with an injury. Mason County plays Scott County in Georgetown Friday night.

The Mason County Royals defeated the Harrison County Thorobreds 63-55 in the semifinals of the Pepsi Mason County Invitational Tournament tonight. Russ Middleton scored a game-high 21 points. Neal Pawsat had his second straight double-double, 11 points and 12 rebounds. Phil Barner also scored 11 points. Mason County will play Campbell County in the championship game Sunday at 2 p.m. The Camels edged the Bishop Brossart Mustangs 40-37 in the other semifinal.

Mason County won the Junior Varsity Mason County Invitational Tournament today. Ryne King scored 14 points to lead the Royals to a 51-25 victory over Bishop Brossart in the semifinals.
Bradley Lang scored 14 points in Mason County's 42-34 win over Campbell County in the championship game.

Lofton's 23 points lead Mersin BSB. to an 85-77 win

Chris Lofton scored a game-high 23 points to lead Mersin BSB. to an 85-77 win over CASA TED Kolejliler today in the Turkish Basketball League. It's Lofton's highest scoring game since he returned to action after suffering a broken finger. Lofton is seventh in the league in scoring with an average of 17.6 points per game. Mersin BSB. is 7-6.

Lady Saints 5-1 after win over Deming

The St. Patrick Lady Saints beat the Deming Lady Devils 72-47 Friday night. The Lady Saints
(5-1) host the Harrison County Fillies Monday night.

Mason Co. boys' frosh edge Campbell Co. 57-55 in 2 OT

Connor Osborne's runner in the lane with 10 seconds left in the second overtime gave the Mason County freshmen a 57-55 victory over Campbell County Friday night. Tyler Black had a
game-high 25 points. Osborne scored 18 points. Mason County (5-3) plays at Bourbon County Monday night.

Pawsat's double-double leads Royals past Saints 86-44

Neal Pawsat scored a career-high 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Mason County Royals to an 86-44 win over the St. Patrick Saints tonight in the opening game of the Pepsi Mason County Invitational Tournament. Russ Middleton scored 14 points and Treg Setty added 11 points. Andy Clarke led St. Patrick with 15 points. Stephen Mason added 12 points. Mason County will play the Harrison County Thorobreds in the upper bracket semifinal game Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Harrison County beat Deming 74-61 in the second game tonight. St. Patrick plays Deming in Mt. Olivet Tuesday night.
