Coach Buchanan's Article Published in Magazine

The August issue of American Football Monthly magazine includes an article written by Mason County Coach David Buchanan. The article, titled The Triple Screen using a spread defense to create offensive opportunities, was submitted to the magazine in October. You can read a portion of the article on the magazine's website. The magazine article includes two photos of former Mason County quarterback Dustin Grutza and a photo of Buchanan talking to a couple of players. Mason County came up with the triple screen as an answer to defenses that had taken away the Royals' spread offense.
A couple of months after Buchanan submitted the article, the magazine contacted him about shooting a DVD about the triple screen. Buchanan flew to Palm Beach, Florida in January and ended up shooting four DVDs. The titles are: The Triple Screen, The Open Punt, The Zone Slant and Attacking Zero Coverage.
Buchanan shot the four DVDs in two days. The DVDs feature Mason County game video and Buchanan drawing up the plays on a white board.
A preview of The Triple Screen has been on AmericanFootballMagazine.com's home page for a couple of weeks.
Buchanan says he has received e-mails about the DVDs from coaches in Baton Rouge, Louisana and New York. Buchanan says the DVDs and article are about Mason County football, not about him. He says the players make it good.
If sometime in the future you see the triple screen in a college game, remember, Mason County did it first.
