Royals finish strong to beat Western Brown 74-65

After missing 13 of their first 21 free throws, the Mason County Royals hit 6-of-8 in the final 2:02 and beat the Western Brown Broncos 74-65 tonight in Mount Orab, Ohio.

There were nine ties and seven lead changes in the first half.

Mason County opened the third quarter with three three-pointers to take a 46-36 lead.

Western Brown rallied to tie the game at 51-51 with 3:15 left in the third quarter.

That was the last tie as the Royals scored four straight points and never relinquished the lead, but the Broncos stayed in striking distance.

With Mason County clinging to a three-point lead, Jaylen Lofton made two free throws to make it 70-65 with 19 seconds left.

Lofton came up with a steal and layup to push the lead to seven with 13 seconds.

Dalton Perkins scored on a tip in for the final margin.

Mason County shot 50 percent from the field in both halves.

Leevi Dunaway led the Royals in scoring with a game-high 19 points.

Lofton and Sam Kumler both scored 16 points and Ty Fox added 15 points.

Mason County's next game is February 10th at Harrison County.
