Draw for 39th District, seeding rejection and new site rotation

The draw for the girls' and boys' 39th District basketball tournaments was held this morning.

Prior to the draw, the schools rejected a plan to seed the district and approved the Mason County Fieldhouse as the tournament site from 2018 through 2021. But the vote on the site plan is invalid.

This year's tournament was already scheduled to be played at the Fieldhouse. Here is the schedule:

Monday, February 20
6:30 p.m. Mason County vs. Augusta (Girls)
8:00 p.m. Mason County vs. Augusta (Boys)

Tuesday, February 21
6:30 p.m. St. Patrick vs. Bracken County (Girls)
8:00 p.m. St. Patrick vs, Bracken County (Boys)

Thursday, February 23
6:30 p.m. Girls' Championship Game
8:00 p.m. Boys' Championship Game

Admission is $6.

Bracken County made a motion to seed the district beginning next season. Bracken County and Mason County voted in favor of seeding, Augusta and St. Patrick voted against the motion. The 2-2 votes means the motion failed.

By a 3-1 vote, with Bracken County voting no, Mason County was selected to host the district tournament through 2021.

Later in the day, it was discovered the site plan vote had to be unanimous, so today's vote is invalid.

The district's athletic directors will meet at a later date to consider a new site plan.

The tournament had been rotated between Bracken County and Mason County every other year.

(Updated to show that today's site plan vote is invalid.)
