Lady Royals 2nd in region and qualify for the state meet

The Mason County Lady Royals qualified for the state track and field meet with a second place finish in the Class 2A Region 6 meet today at Mason County.

Ashland won the girls region with 148.5 points. Mason County had 109 points and Boyd County was third with 72 points. Fleming was fifth and Lewis County was10th.

Russell is the boys region champion with 132 points. Boyd County finished second with 94 points and Bath County was third with 88.5 points. Mason County was fifth and Fleming County was eighth.

The top two teams and the top  two finishers in each event advance to the state meet.

Mason County junior Jordan Frodge won the girls 300 meter hurdles (50.5). Fleming County Abby Fearin was second (52.58).

Mason County senior Hannah Jackson won the high jump (4-08). Frodge was second (4-06).

Mason County sophomore Marissa Scilley won the triple jump (32-03.75) and was second in the long jump (15-03.25).

Mason County senior Jay Stanley won both the shot put (49-05) and the discus throw (144-11). 

Mason County senior Brendan Garrison won the 300 meter hurdles (42.57) and was second in the 110 meter hurdles and the triple jump (38-10.75).

Fleming County senior Christen Reid won the girls pole vault (7-06). Mason County freshman Abigail Dawson was second (7-00). 

Other area athletes qualifying for the state meet with second place finishes include Fleming County 8th grader Hayden Ramey in the boys 100 meter dash (12.85), Fleming County junior Jacob Hitch in the 400 meter dash (55.36), Fleming County sophomore Robert Applegate in the 3200 meter run and Lewis County sophomore Leshia McNamara in the discus throw (88-07).
