Lady Royals win Mason County Invitational for the first time

The Mason County Lady Royals track and field team won the Mason County Invitational for the first time Saturday.

The Lady Royals had 135 points and were followed by Simon Kenton (122.5 points) and Eastern Brown (110 points). Fleming County finished in seventh place (41 points) and Bracken County took 11th place (12 points).

Cooper won the boys meet with 94.5 points and was followed by Lexington Christian (84.5 points) and Simon Kenton (83 points). Mason County finished in fifth place (67.5 points). Eastern Brown took sixth place (61 points), Bracken County followed in seventh place (49 points), Fleming County took 11th place (19 points) and Augusta was 13th (7 points).

Mason County senior Brendan Garrison was the boys meet high point scorer.

First place finishes by area athletes include:

• Eastern Brown senior Abby Fultz in the girls 100 meter hurdles (17:00)
• Eastern Brown junior Jenson Sowers in the girls 100 meter dash (13.56) and the girls 200 meter dash (28.02)
• Bracken County junior Jacob Hamilton in the boys 1600 meter run (4:40.68)
• Eastern Brown sophomore Cassidy Staggs in the girls 300 meter hurdles (50.05)
• Mason County senior Brendan Garrison in the boys 300 meter hurdles (44.19) and the boys triple jump (39-07.00)
• Eastern Brown junior Blake Rigdon (10:17.01)
• Mason County senior Hannah Jackson (4-08.00)
• Mason County junior Rheagan Sizemore in the girls pole vault (8-00.00)
• Eastern Brown sophomore Madison Hopkins in the girls long jump (16-00.00) and the girls 
• Mason County sophomore Marissa Scilley in the girls triple jump (30-10.25)
• Eastern Brown sophomore Mikayla Farris in the girls discus throw (96-09)
• Mason County senior Jay Stanley in the boys discus throw (152-11) and the boys shot put (49-03.00)
• Mason County girls 4x200 meter relay team of Te'a King, Jordan Frodge, Leah Greene and J'Iona Smith (1:55.63)
• Eastern Brown girls 4x100 meter relay team of Madison Hopkins, Cassidy Staggs, Abby Fultz and Jenson Sowers
• Mason County girls 4x400 meter relay team of Abigail Dawson, Hadley Faris, Jordan Frodge and Hannah Jackson (4:31.01)
