Mason Co. vs. Taylor Co. in state tournament tonight

The Mason County Royals play the Taylor County Cardinals tonight at 6:30 in the opening round of the Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Boys Sweet Sixteen at Rupp Arena.

Mason County senior star Antwavon "Pig" Williams was dismissed from the team yesterday due to a violation of team/school policy according to school officials. Williams was Mason County's leading scorer with an average of 19.9 points per game.

Taylor County, the 5th Region champion for the second straight year, is 24-8 and has won 11 straight games and 17 of its last 18.

The Cardinals are led by Xavier University signee, Quentin Goodin, a 6-foot 4 guard who averages 23.9 points and 7.9 rebounds a game. David Sloan, a 6-foot guard, averages 20.3 points a game. Dylan Gaines, a 6-foot 4 junior who transferred from Warren East, averages 11.7 points a game.

Taylor County lost to Hopkinsville in the first round of the state tournament last year.

This is Mason County's first trip to the state tournament since 2010 when the Royals advanced to the semifinals.
