Augusta comes from behind to beat Scott

The Augusta Panthers rallied from a 12-point third quarter deficit to beat the Scott Eagles 72-71 today in the quarterfinal round of the 10th Region Tournament at Montgomery County High School Arena.

Augusta junior Jack Laycock, pressed into action after two starters fouled out, made the game-winning layup with five seconds left in the game.

Laycock missed two free throws with 13 seconds remaining, but Camryn Snapp ran down the rebound after the second miss, The Panthers got to the ball to Laycock who scored his only two points of the game on the layup. Scott missed two shots in the final seconds, and Augusta had its 10th straight victory.

Augusta shot 65.2% from the field in the second half (15-of-23) and 58.7% for the game.

Connor Maddox scored 15 of his 29 points in the fourth quarter. Snapp scored 14 points and Owens Crawford added 12.

Jake Ohmer scored 30 points for Scott.

Augusta will play the Montgomery County Indians in Monday night's semifinals. Montgomery County defeated Pendleton County 48-41 in the today's second game.
