DeMoss Resigns at UK

Mickie DeMoss resigned this morning as women's basketball coach at the University of Kentucky. The announcement didn't send shockwaves through the state like Tubby Smith's resignation did last month but, in my opinion, its still a big deal. DeMoss revived the women's program in her four years at the helm. The Wildcats have advanced to postseason play for three consecutive seasons for the first time in school history and had back to back 20 wins seasons for the first time in 16 years. Several local girls, including my youngest daughter, attended DeMoss' camp last summer. I went to the Kentucky-Ole Miss game Jan. 14. The Wildcats lost 67-65 in overtime but the atmosphere in Memorial Coliseum was electric. DeMoss poured her heart and soul into the program. After 30 years as a college coach, DeMoss deserves some time to relax. She says she not sure what she's going to do. UK Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart says the search for a new coach will begin immediately.
